About the course
Course Overview
Explorations in Healthcare introduces middle school students to a holistic understanding of health through five interconnected dimensions: physical, mental and emotional, social, nutritional, and environmental wellbeing. Designed for grades 6–8, this self paced online course helps students recognize that health is not just about the body, but about the full range of factors that influence daily life and long term wellness.
Throughout the course, students build practical wellness skills they can apply immediately. They develop foundational nutrition knowledge, explore coping strategies for managing stress, practice healthy communication, and use structured decision making frameworks to evaluate choices. Students also learn basic safety awareness and introductory first aid concepts, empowering them to respond thoughtfully in everyday situations.
The course intentionally normalizes conversations about mental health, emphasizing that seeking help is a sign of strength. Students explore how supportive relationships, positive habits, and access to resources contribute to overall wellbeing. Personal reflections are kept private and ungraded, creating a safe space for honest self exploration without academic pressure.
In addition to personal wellness, students investigate a range of healthcare career pathways, gaining insight into roles that support individuals and communities. By the end of the course, students will have strengthened their understanding of holistic health, developed practical life skills, and gained awareness of both personal responsibility and professional opportunities within the healthcare field.
