AI Innovators — A program of Excel Education System Schools

AI Innovators

The STEM Endorsement Pathway of the Future Ready Program · Grades 6–12 · Fully Virtual · Asynchronous · Cognia STEM Certified

AI Isn't Coming. It's Here. Get Your Student Ready to Lead It.

AI Innovators is Excel's vertically articulated artificial intelligence pathway, spanning middle school and high school. Sixteen courses. Two articulated levels. One coherent journey from curious 6th grader to STEM-endorsed graduate ready for what's next.

What AI Innovators Is

AI Innovators is a component of the Future Ready program at Excel, founded on the notion that effective utilization of AI is something that can be taught and learned, and is not an innate talent that you either possess or lack.

The pathway is structured across two levels. In middle school (grades 6–8), your student is introduced to AI as a tool, a topic, and a profession, gaining vocabulary, mental models, and an initial portfolio of projects. In high school (grades 9–12), the endeavors progress to include real programming, real machine learning, real data science, and a culminating project that integrates the pathway experience.

It is also a designated pathway to the Texas STEM endorsement at the high school level. The AI Innovators program is Cognia STEM Certified.

Each course serves as its own launch point and as a step along a pathway. The 10th grader who enters the program will not need the middle school courses to succeed. The student who completes the full pathway will enter college or a career with a portfolio, not just a transcript.

Two Articulated Levels. One Pathway.

AI Innovators Middle School (Grades 6–8)

Discovery, exposure, and an initial portfolio.

Middle school is where AI becomes tangible. In middle school, your student learns what AI is, how it works, where it makes mistakes, and what responsible use looks like. Your student builds, prompts, evaluates, and revises. Your student completes eight courses covering all of the major topics in the high school pathway.

What middle school students face:

The middle school product caters to grades 6–8 and incorporates age-appropriate scaffolding, COPPA-compliant tools, and student-under-13 parental/guardian consent mechanisms.

AI Innovators High School (Grades 9–12)

The STEM endorsement option.

This is a high school four-credit coherent sequence in computer science and artificial intelligence that constitutes a Texas STEM endorsement pathway.

What students encounter while in high school:

  • Eight 0.5-credit courses forming a 4.0-credit STEM endorsement sequence.
  • The same eight topics from middle school, taught at depth: AI foundations and prompt engineering, generative AI and creative applications, AI ethics, Python for AI, machine learning foundations, data science foundations, cybersecurity and AI safety, and an applied capstone.
  • Real programming starting from zero in Python — no prior coding experience needed.
  • Performance-based assessment: two portfolio-ready projects per course (milestone-based work in the capstone).
  • Capstone integrates two previously completed pathway courses, building on prior learning.
  • Design thinking and the engineering design process as the pedagogical backbone of every class.

Built Safe. Built Right.

AI Innovators is Cognia STEM Certified, COPPA-compliant for under-13 students, and built around a safety-first instructional stance. No face or body morphing. No voice synthesis of living individuals. No live hacking demonstrations. Families always have the ability to opt out of sensitive material.
