About the course
Course Overview
AP Biology immerses students in the core concepts and scientific practices essential to understanding the complexities of life. This rigorous course, designed to parallel an introductory college-level biology class, covers key topics including cellular biology, genetics, evolution, energy transfer, and ecological relationships. Students explore how these foundational principles shape living organisms and ecosystems, gaining insights into everything from molecular interactions to the dynamics of entire populations and communities.
Throughout the course, students engage in a series of hands-on labs and inquiry-based activities, allowing them to collect, analyze, and interpret data to draw meaningful conclusions. These experiments reinforce scientific practices, such as hypothesis formulation, experimental design, and statistical analysis, helping students develop a methodical approach to scientific inquiry. Activities may range from studying enzyme reactions and photosynthesis to investigating genetic inheritance patterns and exploring environmental impacts on biodiversity. By grappling with real data and authentic research questions, students learn to think critically, make observations, and understand how scientific knowledge evolves over time.
As students build their understanding, they also learn to connect concepts across different biological systems, recognizing the interdependencies between cellular processes, organismal adaptations, and ecological interactions. This approach helps students see the bigger picture of life sciences, preparing them for the AP Biology Exam each May and equipping them with the skills needed for college and beyond.
This course has been authorized by the College Board® to use the AP designation.
